SUPERGRAM

SupergramDesktop · WindowsEarly build · Coming together

Telegram,
with room to work.

A desktop workspace built around Telegram. Your chats stay exactly where they are. Around them: search that reaches back years, downloads and transfers that keep running in the background, and the tools to keep a heavy account in order.

Who it's for

People who use Telegram for more than talking: the class group with two years of lectures, the channel you archive, the files you know someone sent you once.

The space in between

Telegram is only part of the job.

  1. TalkingConversations. Telegram already does this well.
  2. FindingThe PDF someone sent in March, in a group you've half forgotten.
  3. MovingSaving a channel's worth of video without watching a progress bar.
  4. OrganizingKnowing what you already have, and where it went.
  5. RepeatingDoing the same careful work again tomorrow.

Supergram is being built for everything after the first line.

The workspace

Four kinds of work, one window.

All four exist in the current build. The marks say how settled each one is.

In the build Early work

FindIn the build

Find what you remember, not where it was.

Search across your chats: messages, media, files, links, voice notes. Then narrow it the way memory actually works. A document. Sometime last month. Over 10 MB. From someone in that one group.

The index is built and kept on your PC. Auto-index can be switched off, and any chat can be left out.

MoveIn the build

Heavy work, out of the way.

Downloads line up in a queue you can pause, resume, retry or cancel. Uploads, and migrations that copy from one group or channel to another, run alongside. Choose what moves by type, date, size, sender or filename. The rest of the app keeps working while it does.

Close the app halfway through a download. When it opens again, the download picks up where it stopped.

WorkIn the build

More than a chat window.

Open a chat and its photos, videos and files sit in their own tabs. Play the video, open the image, jump back to the message it came with. The idea is simple: the tools you need for a file should live next to the file, not in five other apps.

The video player and image viewer are in the build. More tools are on the bench.

UnderstandEarly work

Make your own archive readable.

Two optional add-ons read the text in pictures and turn speech into text, so screenshots, scanned pages and voice notes become searchable alongside everything else. They run on your PC. Nothing is downloaded until you choose Install and confirm, after seeing the size, the source and the licence.

Intelligence is a layer under the product, not the product.

How it behaves

It tells you what it's actually doing.

Large transfers stall. Telegram asks apps to slow down. Networks drop. Most software hides that behind a progress bar that keeps moving anyway. Supergram says what is happening, in plain words, while it happens.

Moving

  • Waiting
  • Downloading 42%
  • 1.2 MB/s · 40 s left
  • Finalizing
  • Paused at 42%
  • Downloaded

Held up, and why

  • Waiting for Telegram · 12s
  • Telegram is limiting speed (non-Premium)
  • Stalled · retrying (2/3)
  • Reconnecting

Waiting is a state with a reason, not a frozen bar.

Stopped

  • Failed
  • The disk is full. Free some space, then try again.
  • Cancelled

A failure says why, and what to do next.

Built around Telegram, not against it.

We like Telegram, and Supergram doesn't try to replace it. It works through Telegram's official API with your own account, waits whenever Telegram asks it to, and stays inside Telegram's limits.

Unknown is not zero.

The rule the app is built on: if something hasn't been checked, say so. No guessed counts, no invented time estimates, no “fully indexed” without proof.

Your archive stays on your PC.

Messages, downloads and the search index live on your own machine, and the reading add-ons run there too. Anything optional that talks to a server is listed in the app and can be switched off.

Where it is

Built, not announced.

Supergram didn't start as a landing page. The foundation already runs, and it's tested every week against a real, heavily used Telegram account. The work now is making those pieces feel like one calm desktop app.

In the current build

  • Telegram chatsSign in with your own account
  • Indexed searchMessages, media and files, with filters
  • Download queuePause, resume, retry; picks up after a restart
  • Uploads and filtered migrationBetween groups and channels
  • Indexing you can watchProgress per chat, in Tasks
  • Library healthWhich downloads are still on disk

Early work

  • Voice and video callsWorking, still being hardened
  • Reading enginesText in pictures and speech to text, on your PC

Next

  • One coherent desktop experienceFewer screens, calmer defaults
  • Tools next to your filesStarting with what heavy users ask for most
  • Early accessA small group first, then wider

It's early, on purpose. Foundations first, one system at a time, before the doors open wider.

Founder's note

Why I'm building Supergram

I use Telegram heavily. Not only to talk, but to keep things: lectures, references, files people sent me years ago, channels I don't want to lose.

At that scale the conversation is the easy part. Finding something again, moving a few hundred files, knowing what I already have, doing the same chores every week: that's where the time goes.

I didn't want to build another Telegram clone. I wanted the space around Telegram that I kept wishing existed.

Supergram is that attempt. It's still early, and I'm building it carefully, one system at a time, before opening it up to more people.
